During the meeting, the planning of the demonstration phase of the technologies developed in the project was discussed
Last 14 and 15 of January, ACCIONA organized at its Madrid Campus the meeting for the European HERON innovation project.
The project, funded by the European Commission’s H2020 program, is entering its final demonstration phase to refine and validate the technologies developed within the project framework. These technologies comprise a new robotic platform capable of autonomously placing and removing traffic cones, repairing potholes and cracks, and painting road markings; and a new artificial vision system designed to support inventorying and surface defect inspection tasks, which can be mounted on both, conventional inspection and maintenance vehicles, and drones.
Regarding the workshop, this was focused on planning the validation activities on the section managed by ACCIONA on the Northeast Highway A-2, between the R-2 radial highway (Guadalajara) and the provincial border of Soria. These activities will take place in March 2025 and will include a specific evaluation by company experts to verify the expected process optimization, competitiveness, and contribution to increase workers safety.
With the objective of reducing fatal accidents, roads maintenance and inspection costs and traffic disruptions, the HERON project focuses on process automation and the development of innovative smart solutions to operate and maintain roads in a safer, faster, and more efficient way.
