The European Investment Bank (EIB) and ACCIONA have signed a €120 million loan to invest in research, development and innovation (RDI) and to drive the company’s digitalization strategy with the aim of building more sustainable and efficient infrastructure. This is the signing of the first tranche of a total €150 million loan approved by the EIB.
EIB financing will enable ACCIONA to advance the development of innovative materials, processes and technologies across its business areas related to infrastructure, construction, renewable energy, water treatment and mobility, to enhance their sustainability and efficiency.
The investment will go toward innovative technological solutions in the businesses, process optimization and automation, and decarbonization, as well as cross-cutting projects in digitalization, robotics, the Internet of Things, data analytics and applied artificial intelligence.
The financing agreement supports digitalization and technological innovation, and climate action and environmental sustainability—two of the eight strategic priorities of the EIB Group set out in its 2024–2027 Strategic Roadmap. In the area of technological innovation, the project will contribute to the TechEU initiative, the EIB Group’s program to accelerate innovation across Europe, which aims to mobilize €250 billion in investment by 2027 for startups, scale-ups and innovative companies throughout Europe.
This new financing is part of the EIB’s ongoing support for ACCIONA’s RDI activities and adds to other financing agreements, most recently the one signed between the two entities in 2022.
