The Tampa Bay Desalination Plant has reached its highest production levels in over a decade following the completion of a comprehensive modernization program. The improvements have restored full operational capacity and strengthened the region’s water security.

Contract Renewal and Improvement Program

In 2023, Tampa Bay Water extended the operation and maintenance contract for an additional five years, from 2024 to 2029. This agreement drove a remodeling program focused on reliability, efficiency, and facility performance.

Technical Works Carried Out

During 2024, a complete renovation of the eight reverse osmosis racks was carried out. Five of them were rebuilt in stainless steel, extending their useful life by more than 25 years and improving corrosion resistance.

Other works include:

  • Replacement of 840 pressure tubes
  • Upgrading of pipeline network sections
  • Implementation of digital systems for operational optimization

Operational Results

In the nine months following the works, the facility has operated at its maximum capacity recorded in over ten years, ensuring stable drinking water supply to the Tampa Bay community.
