Water reuse is a key lever for advancing water sustainability, particularly in contexts of increasing water stress and high regulatory pressure. To ensure safe reuse, it is essential to comply with the microbiological parameters required by RD 1085/2024, which establishes the quality criteria for the different uses of reclaimed water.

In this context, disinfection becomes a critical stage of the treatment process, as it must ensure the effective removal of pathogens, guarantee the microbiological stability of the water, and minimise risks to public health and the environment, all without significantly increasing energy consumption or operational complexity.

There is an opportunity to deploy in-line disinfection systems that do not rely on chlorine, do not generate by-products, and reduce operational complexity as well as the risks associated with handling chemical products. Such solutions would enable improved process sustainability, cost reduction, and simplified operation for internal plant uses.

We are looking for alternative disinfection technologies, with a medium–high TRL (≥5), capable of operating continuously on treated wastewater, without the use of chlorine or the generation of by-products. Solutions must be robust, low-maintenance, and easily integrable into existing WWTP facilities.
