ACCIONA and its partners Plenary Americas and SACYR have received a P3 Awards honor, granted by P3 Bulletin, in the category “Best Road, Bridge or Tunnel Project” for the I-10 highway in Louisiana (USA).
The awards ceremony took place on Wednesday in New York. Collecting the prize on ACCIONA’s behalf were José Tamariz, Director of the Concessions business in the United States, and Julio Marcos, Business Development Manager for Concessions in North America.
The P3 Awards are among the sector’s most prestigious recognitions, dedicated exclusively to public–private partnerships. Each year, they honor the most innovative and complex infrastructure deals.
I-10 HIGHWAY BRIDGE
Valued at $3.0 billion (€2.6 billion), this project is the largest and most complex public–private partnership (P3) undertaken in the state. The scope includes rebuilding a six-lane highway, constructing multiple structures — including the new bridge — implementing a free-flow tolling system, and demolishing the existing bridge.
In collaboration with the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, the project is backed by toll revenues and private capital, making it a model of sustainable delivery for critical infrastructure via public–private partnerships.
Financing draws on both public and private sources. The State of Louisiana will contribute approximately $1.2 billion (€1.097 billion) during construction, to be disbursed as work progresses. Long-term financing relies on the issuance of $1.332 billion (€1.222 billion) in tax-exempt Private Activity Bonds (PABs) across four tranches, with maturities between 2054 and 2066. J.P. Morgan Securities LLC and Wells Fargo Bank, N.A. served as key financial participants. The remaining private capital will be invested upon project completion.
