ACCIONA Brazil has been honored with the prestigious Inovainfra Award in its 5th edition, an annual recognition organized by the specialist magazine O Empreiteiro. This award positions the company among the most innovative engineering firms in Brazil in 2024, highlighting the implementation of advanced technological solutions in critical infrastructure projects.
The award is granted specifically for the work presented in the article “Automated Geotechnical Monitoring in Shield (TBM) Excavation,” a methodology applied during tunneling for Metro Line 6-Orange in São Paulo, currently considered the largest infrastructure project under development in Latin America.
Technical Innovation: Automated Geotechnical Monitoring
The award underscores ACCIONA’s ability to address the inherent challenges of underground construction in dense urban environments. The innovation lies in the application of an advanced monitoring system that complements traditional manual instrumentation:
24/7 Automated System: The technology enables continuous surveillance of critical surface structures located above the metro alignment, including the stretch between SESC – Perdizes – PUC.
Risk and Safety Management: Remote, real-time monitoring of geotechnical data is essential for preventive risk management, ensuring the structural integrity of surrounding buildings during tunnel boring machine (TBM) operations.
This technological implementation reflects a strong commitment to the highest standards of safety and operational efficiency during construction.
Line 6: A Landmark in Sustainable Infrastructure
The Line 6-Orange project is not only relevant due to its engineering scale, but also because of its social and environmental impact. The project aims to significantly improve urban mobility in São Paulo by reducing travel time for an estimated 600,000 daily passengers.
The project has already been recognized for its sustainability criteria, becoming the first metro project in the world to obtain the FAST-Infra label. This certification validates ACCIONA’s environmental, social, and governance practices, highlighting initiatives such as promoting gender equality through the hiring of more than 900 women and the adoption of circular economy principles.
Receiving the Inovainfra Award further consolidates ACCIONA’s leadership in applying cutting-edge technologies to deliver sustainable and resilient infrastructure.
