ACCIONA, in collaboration with the Australian company Black Stump Technologies, has launched a pilot project to power the site offices at the new Container Terminal at the Port of Cádiz, reducing CO₂ emissions.
The initiative, which will last approximately six months, involves installing a hybrid diesel–photovoltaic solar generator with power equivalent to a 27 kVA diesel genset.
Fuel savings and emissions reduction
In line with its decarbonization strategy, ACCIONA aims to cut emissions from the generators used on its worksites. This pilot is expected to save more than 15,000 liters of diesel and reduce CO₂ emissions by over 42 tons.
The hybrid system combines photovoltaic solar energy with a backup diesel generator, optimizing the use of renewable energy during daylight hours and resorting to fuel only when necessary.
Decarbonizing worksites
The project is part of ACCIONA’s strategy to decarbonize its construction sites, where conventional generators represent a significant source of emissions. The experience gained from this pilot will help assess the feasibility of extending the solution to other company projects.
