ALBA Hackathon kicked off today at the ALBA Synchrotron in Cerdanyola del Vallès — a unique event jointly organized by the Cerdanyola del Vallès City Council, ALBA Synchrotron, and several leading innovation-driven companies, including ACCIONA, Applus+, DENTAID, and Ercros.
Over the course of two days, more than eighty participants will have the opportunity to develop solutions for four major challenges in the fields of energy, water, and plastics, contributing disruptive ideas for a more sustainable future.
The opening session began with an institutional welcome, followed by the presentation of the challenges by the participating companies. Representing ACCIONA, Ana Jiménez Banzo, Head of Innovation MGT and Technology Transfer, presented the company’s challenge focused on efficiently regenerating materials used to remove persistent pollutants from water, improving purification processes and circularity within the water cycle.
Alongside ACCIONA, Applus+ Laboratories presented a challenge related to the design of a high-precision cryostat; DENTAID explored water reuse in mouthwash production; and Ercros tackled the control of dimensional shrinkage in thermosetting polymers.
After the presentations, participants divided into teams to work on each challenge and visit the facilities of the ALBA Synchrotron. In the afternoon, a Speed Innovation Dating session, organized by the Cerdanyola City Council, allowed teams to share ideas, foster collaboration, and connect with experts from the innovation ecosystem.
ACCIONA’s participation in the ALBA Hackathon reinforces its commitment to open and collaborative innovation through the I’MNOVATION program, promoting technological solutions that accelerate the transition toward a more sustainable, efficient, and circular model.
