Recognition at the Global Water Awards

ACCIONA has once again been recognized at the prestigious Global Water Awards, organized by Global Water Intelligence and presented during the Global Water Summit in Paris. The company received two awards that highlight its leadership in developing and implementing large-scale water solutions worldwide.

The Global Water Awards acknowledge achievements that drive progress in the sector through operational excellence, financial sustainability and technological innovation.

Award-Winning Projects

The awards recognized two strategically significant projects, one in Asia and one in the Middle East:

  1. Desalination Plant of the Year: Tseung Kwan O (Hong Kong)

The Tseung Kwan O Seawater Reverse Osmosis Desalination Plant (SWRO) in Hong Kong was named “Desalination Plant of the Year.”

Capacity and Service: The plant, in operation since 2024, has a treatment capacity of 135,000 m³/day, enough to supply around 850,000 people.
Strategic Impact: Using reverse osmosis technology, the project provides a critical solution to mitigate the challenges of climate change and low rainfall in Hong Kong, covering approximately 5% of the city’s total freshwater demand.
Execution: ACCIONA built the facility in consortium with Jardine Engineering Corporation Limited and China State Construction Engineering Limited.

  1. Wastewater Project of the Year: Madinah, Tabuk and Buraydah (Saudi Arabia)

The “Wastewater Project of the Year” award went to the Independent Sewage Treatment Plants (ISTPs) of Madinah-3, Buraydah-2 and Tabuk-2 in Saudi Arabia.

Scope: These three facilities are designed to treat wastewater generated by a combined population of two million people.
Sustainable Innovation: The projects stand out for their focus on optimizing both physical footprint and environmental impact.
National Contribution: Their development directly supports Saudi Arabia’s national Vision 2030 program, which aims to deliver economic diversification and sustainable development through initiatives such as water conservation and reuse.

Commitment to Sector Progress

This double recognition at the Global Water Awards reinforces ACCIONA’s position as a key player in end-to-end water cycle management. The awarded projects show how the deployment of efficient technologies and sustainable business models is essential to address global water scarcity and contribute to the development of resilient infrastructure.
